Met Gala 2021

The Met Gala is typically held on the first Monday in May, but this year, the event was postponed due to COVID-19 and falls right in the middle of fashion month. As Iris Apfel once said: «When we were small children, we all played dress-up and everybody had a good time, so why stop?». This is how Met Gala is for me, a huge party for everyone who loves to dress up and has never stop to indulge in fashion.

Also referred to as «fashion’s biggest night out,» the Met Gala is a fundraising benefit for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. This year, the Costume Institute will host its first two-part exhibition, on the theme of American fashion, during 2021 and 2022. Part one, «In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,» will open in the Anna Wintour Costume Center on September 18, 2021, and will remain on display when «In America: An Anthology of Fashion,» opens on May 5, 2022 in the period rooms of the American Wing. Both shows will run through September 5, 2022.

Below, you will find my personal selection of outfits, that I loved or didn’t like and hope you will enjoy it.

Summer Bucket Hats

The bucket hat has perhaps had one of the biggest fashion glow-ups in the accessories market. Personally speaking, I love this relaxed style that has become a summer must-have for me, easy to pack and very lightweight, much easier than a big straw hat that hardly fits in your suitcase.

High-fashion brands, like Celine, Etro and Kate Spade took the bucket hat to the S/S 2021 runway, showing how trendy it is.

There’s no one way to wear a bucket hat anymore, as the style is as brilliant paired with a mesh beach cover-up as it is with a luxurious tropical print dress. Below you can find my favorites.

Happy Monday! To shop, just click on the highlighted product description.

My Look: Under the Hood

Summer’s most unexpected wardrobe equation? Hoodie plus wide skirt. As a new variation of the tracksuit, this combination is definitely more presentable. Prada‘s S/S 2021 runway look has immediately become my favorite, a picture of cool.

My look: Triangle logo-plaque cotton hooded sweatshirticon, printed jersey cape, and matching Signaux printed cotton-jersey midi skirticon, triangle logo-plaque high-neck jersey topicon, logo-plaque nylon-gabardine headbandicon, pocket logo-strap crossbody bagSynthesis high-top sneakers, and single triangle earring, all by Prada.

My Look: The 90s

The ’90s are making a comeback. Like history, fashion has a tendency to repeat itself. From your ‘90s childhood you need to start wearing leggings and oversized denim shirts again. Personally speaking, it feels so bizarre seeing my own daughter sporting all those looks three decades later. However, I have always loved being a ’90s child and am indulging in this revival, mixing new and vintage pieces.

My look: Ribbed-knit crop top, logo-plaque leggings, oversized denim shirt, and white leather loafers, all by Prada, vintage sunglasses (GG 2418) by Guccifan leather earrings by Isabel Marant.

My Look: Cheesy

I know I got your attention at «cheesy». Fashion should be fun and not be taken too seriously! This yellow Prada sweater got the internet talking and let’s be frank, it resembles Swiss cheese that is known for its distinctive appearance with several holes. However, I find it very fashion-forward and extremely cool especially when worn together with the matching black open-knit sweater. Being proudly Swiss, I love cheese and I adore this Prada look so much. It was actually my favorite from the S/S 2021 collection and it is also very «Pantone Color of the Year 2021». With Central European weather going crazy at the moment, it is the perfect outfit at the moment.

In case your wondering about the placement of the bow brooch… one hole is placed a little unfortunate revealing a little too much in movement.

My look: Distressed logo-intarsia sweater in yellowicon, distressed open-weave wool sweater in black, belted pleated mohair-blend skirticontwo-tone slingback pumps, and Re-Nylon scrunchie, all by PradaConstance 24 in Evercolor Lime with palladium hardware by Hermès, satin bow brooch by CHANEL, rose diamond ring by PiagetCarrera Automatic Chronograph by TAG HeuerCameo embellished earrings, and faux pearl and crystal barrette, both by Simone Rocha.

My Look: In Style

It is finally time to dress up and go out in style as restaurants are open again in Switzerland. One of my favorite spots to eat in Zurich is La Muña at La Réserve Eden au Lac Zurich that serves Japanese Peruvian specialties. Designed by Philippe Starck, it is a treasure chest, mingling imaginary memories of moments spent on the lake with extraordinary objects found in the city and around the world beneath the hotel’s spectacular dome.

As we have experienced lots of rain in Switzerland recently, my new wool-blend coat is the perfect cover-up for those chilly days. It works for going out as well as snuggling on the couch.

My look: Eliona belted hooded merino wool-blend coaticon by The Row, cutout striped pleated wool-blend midi dressicon by Gabriela Hearst, Birkin 30 in gold Epsom leather by Hermès, orange gold-tone and resin clip earringsicon, and flower pendant cable-chain necklaceicon, both by Dolce & Gabbana, two-tone slingback pumps by Prada, and Carrera Automatic Chronograph by TAG Heuer.
