Fruity Friday

Fruity Friday

During Milan and Paris menswear S/S 2012 fashion weeks, the streets have been filled with people wearing all sorts of fruits. Prada’s bananas (especially loved by the stronger sex, Tim Blanks rocked the print) plus Stella’s lemons and oranges were  seen everywhere. Remember, I have warned you before that this might happen. Please click here for the previous post in February.

And with the EHEC virus going around, wearing vitamins seems a lot more healthier than consuming them.

Mary Katrantzou – Printcess Charming

Mary Katrantzou

It’s not the first time that I review the gorgeous Mary Katrantzou, who won last year’s Swiss Textile Award. To read the interview I did with her, please click here.

The Athens-born designer has always experimented with prints, inspired by the art of trompe l’oeil. Since the launch of her eponymous label in 2008, she has wowed the fashion world. Mary Katrantzou belongs to those breakout stars of the digital print revolution that has been sweeping London’s designers.

For S/S 2011, the collection she won the Swiss Textile Award with, she’d been looking at the highly stylized seventies photography of Helmut Newton and Guy Bourdin when it occurred to her that the interiors in the pictures were just as important as the models.  So she decided “to put the room on the woman”. The outcome is a pop-neo-baroque collection that transforms the dresses into lamp shades for example. It must be hellishly difficult to put the placement print on the right spot of a skirt in order not to make you look clumsy. But the most watched UK talent knows her business well. I would highly recommend looking for a great piece from her S/S 2011 collection on sale now.

My favourite dress

This is my favourite dress from the S/S 2011 collection that I wore last night to an art dinner. The theme of the night was architecture and I thought that the print matched pretty well.

Mary1

W 2011

For F/W 2011, Mary Katrantzou could invest her Swiss Textiles Award trophy money to create an outstanding collection inspired by the most luxurious collectibles in a house. There were dresses done in couture silhouettes that were formed from Fabergé eggs, Meissen porcelain, cloisonne enamel and Ming vases. Her muse was the Duchess of Windsor and her personal belongings. Each girl looked delicate in her dress, like as if you were to drop her she would shatter. A very strong collection!

I cannot wait for more Mary to come!

Look of the Weekend: True Blue

True Blue

„Whoever said money doesn’t buy happiness didn’t know where to shop.“
–       Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl

So true, even that it is very superficial. But let’s absorb that karma and start shopping….
This weekend, I was invited to a friend’s birthday party and this is what I wore. I just adore this colour combination: cobalt blue and neon yellow. YSL’s summer make-up complements it perfectly.

The Miu Miu dress would also look good in combination with other bright hues like pink or green. This is a fun way to work this summer’s colour blocking trend.

My look: Cobalt blue dress, neon yellow bag and matching shoes, all by Miu Miu. The earrings are Vintage Chanel.

My Fashion Column: Wedding Fever

IMG_4415

The new SI Style is available now for my Swiss based readers featuring my fourth fashion column. The global wedding fever inspired me to tell you all about my very own big day that took place in Marbella, Spain. I am actually celebrating my 10th wedding anniversary this summer.

Here is a photo that I couldn’t show in the magazine. My bridal gown was made in the couture atelier of Christian Lacroix in Paris. Everything that was lace like the train, the veil and the long sleeves could be removed for the evening.

I was so scared to loose my dress that I even bought a flight ticket for it. The name it was issued to was Mr Kontrabass and it was sitting next to me in the plane. Isn’t that hilarious?

One of the cutest gift was a special edition of Marie Claire magazine dedicated to me by my colleagues (I was a fashion editor for German Marie Claire at that time) that you can see at the end of this post.

Behind the Scene at the Closed Shoot

IMG_3758

Today, I would like to give you an exclusive view behind the scenes at the Closed F/W 2011 campaign shoot. It was a truly amazing experience and I am still overwhelmed by the fact that I will be one of their advertising faces for the winter season that will be launched worldwide in publications like French Vogue, Love Magazine among others and will be hanging in every Closed store around the globe. How cool is that?!

My “colleagues” for the camapign were all so lovely, interesting people with interesting jobs and it was a pleasure to meet them all.

Lina Scheynius, who shoot the campaign all film and with old cameras, is one of the most requested photographers in the fashion industry. She was born in Sweden and is based in London now. If you are interested, check out her homepage by clicking here.

Make-up was done by Berlin based Anna Neugebauer and hair by the famous Tomohiro Obashi who lives in Paris and did for example the gorgeous Louis Vuitton Cruise 2011 campaign. The stylist was sweet Emilie Johansson from Copenhagen.

So please enjoy my backstage report and all the fab Closed clothes that will be in stores this fall.

Summer is right in front of us and it is time to think about your beach apparel. Sand, sun and salty water are not bikini’s best friends. Therefore I am not so keen on spending too much on something that won’t last long.

H&M is always the best solution and for S/S 2011 their beachwear collection is truly divine. There are lots of different styles and colours to choose from with matching pareos, kaftans, tunics and bags available. You better go shopping now as those pieces will sell out fast.

IMG_3995

I tried my new tiger print bikini this weekend with the see-through jumpsuit and lots of H&M jewelry (looks cool and you don’t need to worry about it!). The straw hat is from the little shop at Club 55 in St.Tropez. Unfortunately, I am still very pale especially compared to H&M’s campaign models but hope that this will change soon…
