My Look: Suite d’Or

Paris feels especially precise from the Prince de Galles, the Art Déco symmetry, the golden calm of the Suite d’Or, the sense that elegance here is simply part of the architecture.

Yesterday’s CHANEL show was, as always, a reminder that the house never stands still. And yet, I notice how naturally I return to the earlier language of the Maison, that quiet, impeccably composed kind of elegance that first defined its allure.

Perhaps the newest chapter simply hasn’t found me yet. But that, too, feels very CHANEL: a house vast enough for different rhythms of taste, different moments of recognition. And in a place like this, surrounded by Paris at its most timeless, the classics tend to speak the clearest.

My look: Black long vest with bow details (Look 62 – S/S 2021), knitted jumpsuit with arm warmers (Look 8 – S/S 2021), logo choker, long pearl necklace and matching wide pearl bracelet, small logo chain waist belt, large waist belt with logo letters, pearl metal hairband with CC logo, and rhinestone Coco handle gunmetal bag, all by CHANEL, and Kate 100 suede pumpsicon by Christian Louboutin.

Odéon – A Fragrant Morning with Memo Paris

Brunch at Odéon: A Fragrant Morning with Memo Paris

There are mornings in Zurich that feel like cinema, pale winter light gliding over the Limmat, the hush of the city before noon, and the quiet glamour of Café Odéon, where writers, revolutionaries, and artists once lingered over espresso. It was here, beneath the chandeliers and Art Déco mirrors, that fragrance met memory in the most poetic way.

With Clara Molloy

The occasion? An intimate brunch with Clara Molloy, the visionary co-founder of Memo Paris. She had come to Zurich to speak about Odéon, a perfume that feels less like a scent and more like a love letter.

And how fitting that we gathered at Odéon Café itself.

A Brand That Travels Through Scent

Founded in 2007 by Clara and her husband John Molloy, Memo Paris is built upon a singular idea: «The journey is the destination.» Each fragrance is tethered to a place, sometimes a city, sometimes a vast landscape, but always a location that carries emotional weight. Paris. Irish moors. African plains. Venetian palazzos.

Memo does not create perfumes; it creates destinations.

Clara spoke with luminous nostalgia about growing up in Paris, about standing above the rooftops and breathing in the city, warm stone, distant gardens, rain on zinc, the invisible sweetness of evenings stretching into night. For her, scent is inseparable from geography. A perfume is never abstract. It belongs somewhere.

Odéon: Paris, Reimagined

Launched in 2020, Odéon entered the Memo Paris collection as a radiant oriental composition, sensual and textured. The fragrance was created by master perfumer Aliénor Massenet, the nose behind Memo’s very first creation, Lalibela, as well as other iconic chapters of the house.

Odéon is Memo’s homage to Paris, not the postcard version, but the intimate, literary, Left Bank Paris. Think golden light spilling from theatre doors, lipstick traces on porcelain cups, the soft rustle of silk against café chairs.

In the Art Déco elegance of Café Odéon, Clara described how Odéon captures that feeling of sensual intellectualism. It is warm yet refined, modern yet steeped in memory. A fragrance that evokes whispered conversations and pages turning in dim light.

There was something almost cinematic about hearing her speak of Paris while seated in Zurich’s own historic Odéon. Two cities momentarily intertwined through scent.

The Art of Odéon

As if the fragrance itself were not already a portrait of Paris, Odéon arrives dressed in art. The bottle is adorned with a bespoke illustration by Jean Jullien, the celebrated French artist known for his poetic minimalism and unmistakable graphic language.

His line work feels effortless yet deeply expressive, capturing the spirit of the Left Bank in a way that is both playful and sophisticated. It is not merely packaging; it is a visual extension of the scent’s narrative. The illustration transforms the bottle into an object of desire, collectible, cultured, and unmistakably Parisian.

In true Memo fashion, fragrance becomes multidisciplinary: scent meets storytelling, meets art.

The Olfactory Pyramid

Top: A radiant touch of bergamot opens the fragrance with clarity and light, softened by a subtle fruity nuance and a whisper of spice.

Heart: At its center blooms a velvety rose, enriched with creamy sandalwood and the addictive warmth of tonka bean, sensual yet refined, romantic yet composed.

Base: Ambered woods and a delicate gourmand facet linger on the skin, creating depth, warmth, and that unmistakable Parisian afterglow.

A Morning of Memory and Connection

Beyond the fragrance itself, the brunch carried its own sweetness. Seeing colleagues again, familiar faces framed by coffee steam and laughter, felt like stepping into a shared chapter. The atmosphere was effortless, elegant, warm.

With my lovely colleagues, Niklaus Müller and Jaz Brunner

And then there was that moment: dipping into the world of Memo, inhaling Odéon, letting it settle onto skin as the scent unfolded slowly, intimately. Perfume has this rare ability to collapse time. Suddenly, we were not just in Zurich. We were on Parisian rooftops. In hidden theatres. In Clara’s memories.

With Marc-André Heller, CEO Memo Paris

The café’s polished wood, the clink of cutlery, the glow of chandeliers, everything felt heightened, as if scent had sharpened the edges of experience.

The Poetry of Place

What makes Memo Paris so compelling in today’s saturated fragrance landscape is precisely this emotional cartography. These perfumes are not trend-driven. They are narrative-driven. Rooted in longing. In belonging. In the idea that a place can live forever on the skin.

As we left Café Odéon, Zurich felt different, slightly more romantic, somehow infused with Parisian air. Perhaps that is the quiet power of fragrance: it allows cities to travel with us.

And that morning, between espresso cups and silk scarves, between memory and modernity, Odéon became more than a perfume. It became a story.

CHANEL Holiday 2023 Collection

Paris, the 1920s. Art Deco style is at its peak. The frenzy of the era is in full swing. It is a time of exuberance; sequins lead the way. With her avant-garde and free-thinking spirit, Gabrielle Chanel embraced this geometric and contrasting aesthetic, and experimented with a completely new style. Within the walls of her rue Cambon Atelier, the designer celebrated life by creating evening gowns studded with striking sequins. In 2023, the Makeup Creation Studio honors her daring spirit by creating dazzling eye looks for the holiday season. The carefree splendor and liberating glamour of that era shine today in a new exclusive collection that symbolizes the Roaring Twenties in all its magnificence. With only one goal in mind: to shine. Infinitely.

Jaeger-LeCoultre – The Reverso Secret Necklace

Since clocks were first miniaturised to be carried or worn as watches, women have played a pivotal role in determining the aesthetic of time and the ways in which it is worn. Thanks to the pioneering spirit of its founder, LeCoultre & Cie recognised the tremendous aesthetic and technical potential of timepieces that could also be worn as jewels and accessories and, at an early stage in La Grande Maison’s history, began creating watches for women as well as men. Blending the arts of horology and jewellery, the Maison has continued to marry technical sophistication, creative design and aesthetic beauty in a process of constant evolution.

Underlining this commitment to feminine expressions of fine watchmaking, the Reverso – although originally conceived for the gentleman polo player – began to appear in feminine form very soon after its launch in 1931. Among the many variations were models that could be worn on a cordonnet bracelet or transformed into brooches, handbag clips or pendants. In 2023, presented at Watches & Wonders, Jaeger-LeCoultre takes this creative legacy to a new level, presenting a new interpretation of the Reverso in the form of a magnificent piece of High Jewellerythe Reverso Secret Necklace, which transforms the design icon into a graceful and exquisitely feminine sautoir, or long necklace.

The cordonnet, the original black textile bracelet (literal translation: fine or small cord) seen on Reverso models of the 1930s has been reimagined as a supple chain of intricate diamond-set links and polished onyx beads, from which a richly gem-set Reverso is suspended. Two pendants of polished onyx charms add a refined flourish to this elegant new way of wearing the time.

Among High Jewellery watches there is a long history of secret watches – watches with a gem-set cover hiding the dial until the wearer wishes to read the time. The swivelling case of the Reverso is a twist on this idea, concealing the time when turned over. Although initially designed for purely practical reasons, the blank metal flip side of the case offers almost limitless potential for decoration with gem-setting, enamelling or engraving.

Worn with the case back turned to the front, the Reverso Secret Necklace is a beautiful Art Deco-inspired jewel that conceals its secret power of time-telling until the wearer chooses to reveal it; worn with the front dial showing, it is an exquisite timepiece that hides its reverse side like an enchanting, personal pleasure. It is notable that while the dial appears to observers to be upside-down, it is set that way so that the wearer can read the time naturally as she lifts the watch to her line of sight.

Jaeger-LeCoultre is one of the very few watchmaking Maisons to have its own Métiers Rares® (Rare Handcrafts) atelier, bringing multiple craft skills together in a specialised workshop within its Manufacture.

Recalling the Art Deco origins of the Reverso, the reverse side of the pink gold case is set with white diamonds and black onyx in an intricate pattern of geometric repeats, contrasting with the warm tone of the metal. Vertical rows of grain-set diamonds wrap around the convex sides of the case and frame the dial. Contrasting with the richness of black onyx and pink gold, the centre of the dial is set with white diamonds, as are the signature brackets that define each corner of the dial. With over 3,000 diamonds, the gem-setting on the Reverso Secret Necklace requires over 300 hours of meticulous work for our Métiers Rares® atelier artisans.

Concealed within the case, the movement that powers the Reverso Secret Necklace is testament to Jaeger-LeCoultre’s commitment to mechanical excellence. Developed and produced entirely in house and comprising 93 parts, the manually-wound Calibre 846 was created specifically for the Reverso and, in keeping with the Manufacture’s philosophy of product integrity, is shaped to follow the contours of the rectangular case.

The Reverso Secret Necklace is an exquisite creation that represents a rare and noble marriage of high jewellery, rare handcrafts and fine watchmaking.

Cartier Beautés du Monde Collection

The Cartier brothers, who travelled extensively, observed, and drew inspiration from the beauty of the world, preserving it, and above all, enriching it. The Maison’s latest high jewelry collection BEAUTÉS DU MONDE continues this tradition. From the perfect arrangement of a bird’s feathers to the abstraction of a traditional Japanese motif, Cartier never ceases to marvel at all the beauty in the world and convey it through its sumptuous and spirited High Jewellery creations.

THE OCELLE NECKLACE
OF ALL BIRDS, THE PEACOCK IS POSSIBLY THE MOST FASCINATING

It was through his passion for the Islamic arts that Louis Cartier perceived the power of blue and green. For him, the discovery of this chromatic combination was so powerful that it became part of the Maison’s palette under the name of «peacock motif.» This combination quickly became a Cartier signature. The Ocelle necklace from the Beautés du Monde collection pays tribute to the bird with two opals weighing 16.59 and 6.19 carats respectively, and a 21.18-carat Zambian emerald. In addition to the colours, the necklace incorporates the form of the eyespots that characterise the peacock’s plumage. These are miniaturized, multiplied and highlighted by an onyxtrim. Partly overlapping each other and mobile, these small feathers bring great suppleness. The fluidity of the ensemble attests to the excellence of the Cartier workshops, as does the custom cuts of the opals and emerald, which are mounted on their culasse to create an invisible setting. The upper opal detaches to be worn as a brooch.

THE SPLENDENS NECKLACE
FAITHFULLY REPLICATING THE UNDULATING FINS OF A FIGHTING FISH

Was never the intent of this necklace, which introduces a new animal into the Cartier bestiary; rather, it was the desire to abstractly represent the delicate nature of their floating fins while creating a High Jewellery necklace. A creative stroke of handiwork made with a cascade of spinel beads selected for their harmony of colours and increasing size. Each bead is held within a type of invisible cap by a tiny nail whose surface plays with the light like water would over the scales of a fish. This exceedingly supple bib necklace is lined with nine oval and pear spinels totalling 27.79 carats. Remarkable for its chromatic uniformity, the ensemble is studded with square- and lozenge-shaped diamonds that electrify this fluid necklace, which seems to flow along the body’s curves.

THE CAMAIL NECKLACE
CARTIER CAN SEE BOTH LIFE AND MOVEMENT IN NATURE’S PERFECTION

A bird’s plumage thus becomes the abstract motif of a choker. Inspiration came to the artisans as they gazed in wonder upon the 42.44-carat ensemble of five Zambian emeralds, remarkable in their pear-shaped beauty. Each gem is highlighted by a curve of square diamonds trimmed with custom-cut onyx. The design thus creates a strong sensation of movement. Behind this rhythmic composition lie two feats of jewellery-making prowess: first, the necklace’s suppleness and second, the prong-less settings of the emeralds which seem to rest on top of the diamonds. In reality, each stone is precisely fitted onto a crescent-moon paved with diamonds that is integrated into the border. This creation renews and explores the chromatic harmony between white, green, and black that appeared around 1910 and has since become an emblematic combination of the Maison. The black of onyx, lacquer and enamel provides contrast, suggests volume and depth, and highlights geometric motifs. This combination heralded the Art Deco movement, of which Cartier was a pioneer.

THE OBI NECKLACE
FOR CARTIER, THE BEAUTY OF THE WORLD IS ALSO THE BEAUTY OF TRADITIONS

Drawing inspiration small calibrated rubies. Thanks to from Japanese fabrics the very delicate custom-cut onyx decorated with inserts, the angles are marked, the rising sun motif, the Obi necklace pays tribute to the culture of Japan, an inspiring land cherished by the Maison for more than a century. A rare ensemble composed of eight cabochon-cut emeralds, including a 12.53-carat specimen from Zambia, provides the starting point. The gemstones become the heart of the radiant motifs, linked together. The roundness of the cabochons contrasts with the motif ’s geometry, which is punctuated by volumes accentuated, and the entire necklace gains depth. Green, red, and black: a signature chromatic harmony for Cartier, which since the beginning of the 20th century has dared to create unprecedented combinations. The colour black represents a new modern entry into the Cartier universe, and is now emblematic of its style. In keeping with Cartier’s tradition of transformable pieces, the pendant motif detaches to be worn as a brooch.

Below you can enjoy some making of photos that show the amazing craftsmanship behind those pieces.

My Look: Sandra Claus

Sandra Bauknecht - Sandra Claus

Merry X-mas to all of you. Christmas Eve was absolutely fantastic being surrounded by my loved ones in the comfort of my own home. In the morning after my last minute shopping tour, my daughter and I decorated our Christmas tree that turned out to be very girly in pink, white and silver with a touch of black. A few years ago, I decided to get an artificial tree. I always felt bad to cut one for only those few days and hated the cleaning up after the season was over. With the fake snow, I really love its look and to achieve this iconic pine smell, I use a little trick (Please click here for last year’s post). Each season, I also opt for another color scheme.

Christmas tree 2013 -1

In the evening, we ate great food and dressed up just enough to feel special, but still be comfy. We always end up playing fun games and talk until late. After dinner, we exchanged gifts – the little extra magic and sparkle of a Christmas Eve. Being a mum, I felt like Sandra Claus seeing my daughter’s eyes filled with joy and happiness. It is one of those magical moments you treasure forever. My hubby really surprised me in a fun way. He had “bribed” my personal shopper at net-à-porter iconand got me some of my favorite items from my wish list. My personal shopper told me she had to take them out of my basket as they were defect and I had been so disappointed… great idea, I have to say! I cannot wait to show you my new pieces.

Prada Resort 2014-2

Inspired by the innovation and seductive glamour of 1940s haute jewelry, PRADA presents a collection of cuffs, bangles, bracelets and earrings with a contemporary point of view. Each piece is finely crafted using artisanal haute jewelry techniques and exquisite detailing but is made with unexpected materials in daring colours and forms. The collection brings together PRADA’s signature Saffiano textured leather in rich shades of orange, emerald green and turquoise with bold formations of geometric crystals, inspired by the art deco era and the natural world.

PradaJewels_2013_3_lowA hibiscus flower motif taken from the S/S 2014 men’s and women’s collections appears in Saffiano leather on bracelets and in crystal on drop earrings. Exotic crocodile skin appears in different colours: jade green and ruby red amongst the others. Luxurious plated gold or palladium finishes the pieces, each a unique interpretation of a new modern decadence.

I love those pieces!
