Dîner en Blanc in Paris

Last Sunday, I flew from Belgrade where I had spent an amazing weekend with my girlfriends to Paris to attend the famous Le Dîner en Blanc (Dinner in White) that was originally launched with just a handful of friends by François Pasquier exactly 30 years ago. This gathering always takes place in one of Paris’ most prestigious locations, among them for example the Champs-Elysées, the Louvre museum, and the forecourt of Notre-Dame Cathedral. It brings together some 20,000 people, half of whom are from other countries, to dine at the same table.

Me at the meeting point waiting for the location to be revealed.

At the last minute, the secret location is revealed via text message to the participants who have all been patiently waiting to learn where Le Dîner en Blanc will take place. You meet at a certain point in the city and walk to the designated area which looks already spectacular as everybody is dressed up in all white.

Despite the green light for the traffic, people are walking to the designated area.

This Sunday, we gathered on green lawns with fabulous views of the Invalides, the gold-domed building that houses the tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte and other prominent French figures. We all brought our chairs, tables with white tablecloths and the greatest decorum for this mass «chic picnic» in a public space.

People setting up their tables and decorations.

Having a great time with my friends, even that I had only slept 2 hours…!

There are no disruptions: no car traffic, no pedestrian traffic—only amazed and astonished looks from passersby observing the scene before them. Even the Parisian police continues to tolerate this «wild» gathering, if not perhaps even wishing they could join in! And participants, like spectators, wonder whether it’s all not a dream… for a few incredible hours, a special magic permeated the site and enveloped all in attendance, making everything seem more beautiful. Surrounded by thousands of twinkling little lights, a dazzling Eiffel Tower, we all enjoyed this exceptional Parisian evening.

Stay tuned for the outfit post coming up tomorrow…

Back from the amazing ASW Summer Weekend in St. Tropez, I am filled with many lovely memories that I will soon share with you. For the first evening, I wore this beautiful gown by my friend, Ukrainian-born, London-based designer Natasha Zinko who is one of the most talented designers I know. Her creations are beautiful, architecturally crafted pieces that play with proportions and cuts. Unexpected and different, exactly what I love!

My Look: Vintage Viktor & Rolf

Here is my look that I wore to the 10 years Atelier Swarovski dinner last Tuesday. As Viktor & Rolf were present, I decided that it would be nice to wear something from their previous collections. When I last met them in 2015 (click here for the previous interview), they stopped doing ready-to-wear to focus only on couture.

My look: Cropped leather-trimmed wool-gabardine blazer by Saint Laurent, silk crepe de chine blouse and strappy heels in nude, neon yellow and black, both by Miu Miu, yellow and nude printed A-line skirt and mini Bombette bag, both by Viktor & Rolficon, and resin bead necklace iconby Marni. Rose des Vents bracelets in turquoise, orange, green and pink by Dior Joaillerie, diamond ring by Vainard Fine Jewellery.

My Look: Back to the ’80s

The ’80s are back. But not everything is making a comeback, absolutely trending are sneakers, vibrant colors, strong-shouldered or asymmetric silhouettes and high side ponytails. I know, when you hear the term: side ponytail, hair nightmares of the ’80s may start dancing in your head, but I am here to change that. They are a welcome change from the hairstyles of today. Take this look as your guide on how to pay homage to the ’80s in 2018.

The message is clear «Girls just wanna have fun» exactly as Cindy Lauper warbled in 1983. And believe me, you will feel so young again…

My look: Cloudbust logo-embossed rubber and leather-trimmed mesh sneakers and asymmetric intarsia wool sweatericon, both by Pradaruffled crinkled silk-chiffon blouseicon and Sylvie mini buckle leather shoulder bag, both by Gucci, rickrack-trimmed stretch-cotton jersey track pants by Mira Mikati, and two heart-overlay round-frame sunglasses by Miu Miu and cocktail ring by Etro.

My Look: Green Jumpsuit

While you are reading this, I am in Cannes for the Film Festival. Before I left, my daughter had taken these photos in Zurich for a school project, making me dance in front of tourists. The jumpsuit is one of my favorite pieces from this S/S 2018 season. I adore the cut (so ’70s) and the color so much. The sunglasses are around 20 years old. When I bought them two decades ago, everybody was making fun of me how big they were and told me I looked like a bug. So funny, compared to today’s models, those ones are tiny… time changes, tastes differ.

My look: Belted wool and silk-blend cady jumpsuit, icon white oval vintage sunglasses, and platform leather pumps, all by Gucci, quilted leather crossbody bag by Balenciagafaux-pearl tassel earrings by Oscar de la Renta, and Horsebit blue topaz diamond white gold ringicon by Gucci Fine Jewellery.

My Look: Prada Comic

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you! I hope that you will be spoilt and have to time to relax on this very special day. Personally speaking, family means a lot to me and therefore I was very happy to spend the last weekend in my hometown Frankfurt in Germany to celebrate my nephew’s baptism. I am very blessed as I have amazing parents and a super duper little sister!

Frankfurt is a city full of contrasts. In the center, it is filled with skyscrapers that gave it the nickname «Mainhattan». If you head to the suburbs, you will find the most beautiful landscapes, green and picturesque. I am sure that you can feel the diversity in my pictures.

In this post, you see me wearing pieces from Prada’s S/S 2018 collection which I absolutely adore. Miuccia Prada collaborated with eight female illustrators who depict women in their own «uniquely empowering way» as the fashion show notes read. From manga to punk to sci-fi by artists such as Brigid Elva, Jöelle Jones, Stellar Leuna, and Trina Robbins among others, let the artwork do the talking!

My look: Tiger-print Misty-patch coat, comic-print one-shoulder cotton dressiconframe comic-print leather bagicon, and appliquéd leather sneakers, all by Prada. Square-frame glitter sunglasses by Gucci, Rose des Vents bracelet, 18k yellow gold, diamond and turquoise by Dior, Tonda 1950 set clarity watch by Parmigiani Fleurier, and diamond ring by Vainard Fine Jewellery.

My Look: The High and Low

We all know that high/low is having a moment. Wearing a fast fashion fix from Zara elevated with a great designer bag and paired with a high jewelry necklace is actually pretty cool.

But you have to enjoy shopping to take advantage of this rule to get acquainted with the quality of fabrics, finishings and silhouette to pull off a fabulous high/low look.

My look: Rose fake fur coat with light blue embellishments, floral ruffled dress, and boots with attached embellished knitted knee socks, all by Zara, Mimi bag in plat/milk/black by Salar (The Italian handbag brand was founded in 2010 by two creatives, Mexican-born Salar Bicherenloo and Francesca Monaco, from Puglia, Italy, who came together to design some seriously cool It-bags – so cool, they’ve been featured in Vogue Italia – in Switzerland available at JELMOLI in Zurich). One-of-a-kind titanium and gold necklace with a pear-shaped kunzite of 153.73 carat.

My Look: Cropped Top and High-Waist Jeans

Trends come and go all the time; while I am glad some are gone, I am ecstatic that a few good ones are back. The cropped top is one of those fashionable currants that found its way from where it started and this time it’s gotten better. Wear it with another ’80s revival the high-waist jeans that are on par with today’s trends.

My look: Trocadero wool-blend cardigan by AltuzarraNepos high-rise stretch-cotton twill skinny pantsicon by Isabel Marant, velvet over-the-knee boots by Miu Miu, chain-embellished D-frame acetate sunglasses by Stella McCartneyicon, Monogramme glittered canvas shoulder bag and wide-brimmed rabbit and cotton-blend felt fedora, both by Saint LaurentT Wire Narrow 18-karat rose gold cuff by Tiffany & Co. and Tonda 1950 Galaxy by Parmigiani Fleurier.
