Prêt-à-Portea

This week, I was in London for Fashion Week and treated myself to the legendary Prêt-à-Portea designer afternoon tea experience at the Berkeley Hotel which is inspired by the world of fashion. I had already done it once 6 years ago (for the previous post click here please) and was curious to see the Collins Room after it had undergone renovations.

You might be wondering what is Prèt-à-Portea exactly? It is a menu of couture cakes especially designed for the respective season gets a makeover every six months to reflect the latest catwalk trends, colours and designs. For F/W 2017-18, Head Pastry Chef Mourad Khiat has sent out a brand new collection of exquisite biscuits, bakes and fancies. It takes inspiration from an array of distinguished fashion and accessory designers, and the latest creations shown on the international fashion runways.

YOUR FASHIONISTA’S TEA INCLUDES
A delicate collection of cakes and fancies inspired by the world’s finest designers:

Gucci’s kimono, complete with a charming parasol, transformed into a pomegranate and grenadine bavarois, with cassis and apple compote topped with a crystallised edible flower and a chocolate parasol.

Balenciaga’s effortlessly luxe black-and-white flouncy dress reimagined as a moist chocolate cake, layered with white chocolate Grand Marnier mousse, crunchy ganache and a sexy orange leg.

Gianvito Rossi’s red-heeled boots, recreated as a fennel seed biscuit iced with burgundy red royal icing.

Bottega Veneta’s daring mustard-coloured suit, gracing the cakewalk as an iced speculoos chocolate biscuit.

Anya Hindmarch’s orange leather clutch as a dulce and ginger cake sandwiched within foxy orange chocolate.

Burberry’s sleek white feathered cape, recreated as a tonka bean cheesecake with cinnamon crumble base, covered with glossy white glaze and finished with a curvy white chocolate feather.

Miu Miu’s luxuriously warm coat transformed into a bûche of pistachio crémeux set on hazelnut sable and topped with waved meringue.

Christopher Kane’s ‘LBD’ taken to another level with stunning flowers and transformed into a chocolate moelleux cake with lacte café and Bailey’s cream, finished with sugar flowers.

Dolce & Gabbana’s stand-out dress, now an almond génoise complete with a mango & passion fruit insert and a cocktail caraibe mousse, topped with a rainbow of chocolate disks.

Your tea also includes a flavoursome collection of miniature savoury skewers, taster spoons, elegant canapés and tea sandwiches. To drink, choose from a large selection of loose leaf teas (I personally recommend the Ceylon & Rose tea) from the hotel’s extensive collection and treat yourself to a glass of bubbly like I did. Raise a toast in style!

Prêt-à-Portea is priced at £52.00 per person.
Champagne Prêt-à-Portea, with a glass of Laurent-Perrier, £62.00 per person.
Couture Champagne Prêt-à-Portea, with a glass of Laurent-Perrier Rosé, Bollinger Rosé or Ruinart Blanc de Blancs, £70.00 per person.

My Look: Dogs & Watches

Thursday night, I attended Breitling‘s red-carpet event at Zurich’s Hallenstadion. The innovative Swiss watch brand celebrated the debut of its new Navitimer 8 collection and Breitling’s new global CEO, Georges Kern introduced his brand’s next chapter. The event was the European stop on Breitling’s international tour, which debuted in Shanghai in late January and which will move on to New York City at the end of February.

As 2018 marks the Year of the Dog, I’ve chosen an offbeat ode to one of my favorite four-legged friends with this dog print gown and hope that you will like it as much as I do.

My look: Dog print silk chiffon gown by Dolce & Gabbana, classic Paris D’Orsay pumps with bow and metallic-trimmed leather clutch, bothicon by Saint Laurent, necklace by Dior, and Mitza ring by Dior Haute Joaillerie.

Fashionable Pasta

This is a must for every fashionista who loves to cook or at least eat. Dolce & Gabbana has signed the new look of Di Martino pasta. A special edition celebrating the Italian excellence through the colours, symbols and monuments identifying their home country the designer duo is so proud of.

The new packs designed by Dolce & Gabbana have become real postcards from Italy, that are going to enliven and scent tables worldwide thanks to their lively Mediterranean design. But the designers haven’t turned chefs for the project, the pasta itself is made by its aforementioned collaborator.

SPAGHETTI
– al dente in 8 minutes
Long circular shape whose appearance evokes a twine. They immediately bond with everybody tasting them: impossible to resist them, especially when paired to simple and genuine seasonings.

PENNE MEZZANI RIGATE
– al dente in 10 minutes
Short shape, featuring the same section of mezzani, a striped surface and an oblique cut. They are perfect with meat or cheese sauces.

MISTA CORTA
– al dente in 9 minutes
This mixture of small shapes comes from the old families habit to keep various pasta shapes left-overs and put them altogether into a single soup, usually legumes or vegetable-based.

PACCHERI
– al dente in 13 minutes
Great classic of the Neapolitan tradition, they are believed to be so-called because, when blended with their sauce, they recall the sound of a slap, a “pacchero” indeed. Their strong point? Versatility! Put them in the oven, sauté them in a pan or make a sweet seasoning and serve them as a dessert.

AVVOLTI A MANO
– al dente in 8 minutes
In the past, in Gragnano, pasta was used to be sold hand-wrapped into blue sugar paper called “macaroni paper”.

THE GIFT BOX
All the shapes leading the special edition and an apron designed by the stylists, together into a lively tin box. The most exclusive present for the Italian taste lovers.

The box contains:
N. 2 Spaghetti 500gN. 2 Penne Mezzani Rigate 500gN. 1 Paccheri 500g
N. 1 Apron designed by Dolce&Gabbana

I’m One Year Younger Than I’ll Be Next Year

Today is my birthday and good news is that I’m one year younger than I’ll be next year… If I had a wish list granted from the birthday fairy, it would look like this…

Definitely anything Gucci makes me happy. I adore Alessandro Michele‘s designs so much and fell in love with this «Soave Amore Guccification» denim jacket (1). Such a cool piece!

Me at my first day of school matching the Gucci jacket and the Dolce clutch on my wish list :-)…

Then I adore crazy sunglasses like these chain-embellished D-frame acetate sunglasses (2) by Stella McCartney. Even that I am turning 43, I am still feeling like a little girl and this Dolce box clutch pencil case (3) by Dolce & Gabbana reminds me of my first days at school. A fun bag can kick-start a conversation at every dinner party as well as a pair of Etro‘s statement earrings (5). Then talking business, since quite some time, I have been looking for a laptop case and really like this Masters LV x Jeff Koons one (4) featuring Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.

Dear Birthday Fairy… I have been a good girl… just saying!

Here you see me exploring the city in a comfy yet stylish outfit. Drawing inspiration from Disney’s film «Fantasia» released in the 1940’s, this cute dress by Mary Katrantzou is the height of whimsy.

My look: Quilted nylon coat with mink by Gucci, Iven Blue Centaur dress by Mary Katrantzou, lavender cashmere wrap cardigan by Ralph Lauren Black Labelgraffiti classic city tote bag by Balenciaga, crystal embellished biker boots by Miu Miu, teddy necklace by Dolce & Gabbana and leopard print scarf by Louis Vuitton.

What to Wear to the Vienna Opera Ball

The legendary Vienna Opera Ball, that started in 1877 under Emperor Francis Joseph, is considered as the highlight of the social calendar in the Austrian capital and usually takes place on the last Thursday of the carnival season. The city of waltzes celebrates more than 450 balls each year but as far as glamour goes, the Vienna Opera Ball is up there with the BAFTAs and the Met Ball. For the event, the State Opera is transformed into the most festive, imposing and high-profile ballroom in the world where important politicians, entrepreneurs, royals, artists, and well-known celebrities from all over the world dance the night away.

Each year, around 5.500 guests attend. Renowned designers are regularly involved in running the show: this year, Dolce & Gabbana designed the tiara for the around 300 debutantes, that will kick off the Opera ball. After they have finished, the master of ceremony announces: Alles Walzer! (All waltz!). When you hear this and Johann Strauss’ waltz «On The Beautiful Blue Danube», you know that you are allowed to enter the dance floor.

Nevertheless when it comes to the dress code, there is a huge difference. It is much stricter and more old-fashioned than compared to other galas.

The following dress code applies to the Vienna Opera
Ladies: Long Evening Gown
Gentlemen: Tailcoat

What sounds simple at first, is associated with some pitfalls, because if you do not follow the dress code, the access to the ball will be denied.

For the ladies:

long gown (at least ankle length)
no cocktail dress
wide skirt – no body-con dresses (very important)
cleavage: not too deep
no wristwatch – only a jewelry watch

For the men:

tailcoat (elegant evening suit with waist-short jacket and «swallowtail»)
no tuxedo, no simple suit
no tie
«Mascherl» bow tie (white)

I am so excited to attend this amazing event on the 8th of February this year and will practice my Vienna waltz dancing skills. Therefore I need a gown in which I will be able to move and which honors the dress code. Not so easy…

Here are my favorite choices, which one do you prefer?
