Weak in the Presence of Beauty

In the beginning of June, an amazing exhibition took place at Kunsthalle in Zurich and I was extremely bumped that I couldn’t go as the event took place for one day only. Originally a coffee table book, ‘weak in the presence of beauty’ is a photographic series by Swiss artist Walter Pfeiffer.

The exhibition captured the constants throughout Daniel Lee’s menswear collections at Bottega Veneta. Walter Pfeiffer continues to represent the fluidity of gender and sexuality, especially expressed with the male body.

Additional drawings from the artist, who had long worked as an illustrator before making a name as a photographer, complimented a curated edit of these photographic images. Friends and family showcased the best bits including Roberto Bolle, Trent Alexander Arnold, Timo & Janik Baumann, Pan Daijing and Fernando Cabral.

This week, I was invited by Louis Vuitton to Geneva to explore the Maison’s Objets Nomades, a collection of travel-inspired furniture and objects made in collaboration with internationally renowned designers, the most amazing high jewelry and timepieces as well as an exceptional collection of trunks at a private home. You get a sneak preview in this outfit post. A detailed report will follow shortly.

My Look: Oh!

Oh! Wait.. how old am I? Probably too old for being in the playroom of Gstaad Palace hotel. However, I still have that inner child in me which also translates from time to time in my choice of fashion. Candy colors, soft shapes, and cute prints have always attracted me, as they are providing a grown-up way to add a playful edge to any look. The key to staying young? Not growing old in your mind!

My look: Crochet-knit cotton-blend jacketicon, and fringed polka-dot crochet-knit cotton mini skirticon, and The Whirl leather clutch in pinkicon, all by Bottega Veneta, leather over-the-knee bootsicon by Alexander McQueen, pearl and crystal necklace by CHANEL, and logomania superstition scarf by Louis Vuitton.

My Look: Shibori & Macramé

Hello beautiful weather! Time to put on some fun pieces. Do you know what shibori and macramé are? My beautiful and super comfy jumpsuit is printed with a Japanese shibori – inspired pattern.  Shibori (from the verb root «shiboru» – «to wring, squeeze or press») is a Japanese manual tie-dyeing technique, which produces a number of different patterns on fabric. Macramé is a crafting technique that uses knots to create various textiles as seen on my bag and shoes. I love the combination of both beautiful craftsmanships and hope you will like it too!

My Look: The Diana Tuck

A trend borrowed from Lady Di’s iconic off-duty style, pants tucked into knee-high boots, has already made the leap from the runway to the streets, and is sported today also on my legs. It gives your outfit such a cool and relaxed take on luxury. It is my styling trick if the pants are too long…

My Look: Ken Scott x Gucci

Today’s look is all about enhancing the timeless, retro-influenced mood that is trending at the moment. Reinvigorate your wardrobe with the bold and vibrant designs everyone has their sights on. My striped outfit is from the Ken Scott x Gucci collection that I absolutely adore.

Ken Scott was an American designer who resided in Milan in the 60s and 70s. He was known as the «fashion gardener» for his colourful, oversized botanical prints and vibrant colors. Alessandro Michele worked with Scott’s archive to incorporate his prints on signature House designs: «Ken Scott was a really great creator of fabrics, he mapped out flowers with romanticism and flowers into pop culture. He treated flowers like shop signs, he multiplied them, turned them into something that stood out. I like his work because I am obsessed with floral prints.»

I went for the less obvious print, instead of flowers I feel in love with those rainbow stripes. The perfect outfit for enjoying the change of the season, as I did on this beautiful day at Gstaad Palace hotel in the end of February.

My look: Rainbow-print linen topicon, matching rainbow-print linen trousers, gold-tone crystal belticon, and 1955 Horsebit leather-trimmed crocheted shoulder bag, all by Gucci, lace-up leather-trimmed mesh pumpsicon by Bottega Venetawide brim straw hat by BalmainClash de Cartier ring in 18K rose gold with amazonite by Cartier, and Royal Oak 37mm 18-karat frosted rose gold watch by Audemars Piguet.

My Look: The Fog

Around Lake Zurich, it can get very foggy, especially during fall. Not being able to to see the sun after several days can really bring down one’s mood. However the beauty about Switzerland is, that if there is fog around the lake, you can almost always find the sun and blue skies above in the mountains. I spent the last two days in Zurich and when driving up today to Gstaad again, the sun was shining and it made me realize how blessed we are to live in such a beautiful place.

My outfit definitely works on all occasions, sunny or foggy weather. I am absolutely loving it. It is playful, yet conservative, eye-catching, yet muted in colors.

Bottega Veneta’s Padded Cassette Bag

I just love this bag! Daniel Lee‘s blown-up take on Bottega Veneta‘s intrecciato weave creating perfectly shaped squares feels so modern and sophisticated. The structured, ’90-inspired silhouette is crafted from two layers of soft leather that’s thickly padded so it feels soft and puffy.

There are two options. First, wear the adjustable leather strap cross-body or tuck it inside to carry as a clutch as seen above or opt for the version with the chunky chain strap in gold (my favorite) or silver, which happens to be another new addition this fall, see below.

Optical Glasses

No matter if you need them or not, wearing glasses will give you a polished, distinguished and different look. Regardless of your outfit, glasses can help you enhance your unique style and improve how people perceive you in the process. Almost all psychologists agree that glasses-wearers look more qualified and trustworthy. I got myself a pair of glasses that filter out the blue light spectrum to cut down on digital eye strain, which was a great decision.

Below are some optical designer frames I truly like. Make them a statement! It is a little investment for a great output. The attention will be all yours…

Happy Friday 13th – I keep on packing!
