In the colorful campaign shot by the Morelli Brothers in an original trattoria in Trastevere in Rome, British actress Emilia Clarke embodies a modern, empowered woman.

Beauty for Millennials

When I started my blog almost 8 years ago, I was one of the first ones and believe me I had to fight for my right to be on that media planet! Today, it is very interesting for me to observe how brands that were completely against digital media for a long time, go for it now. But let’s face it there was no choice. The next generations are coming and they have witnessed the birth and rapid evolution of the biggest social media networks of today. «Millennials» – a term you see thrown around with increasing regularity these days.

Millennials will soon have the greatest purchasing power of any demographic and their mindset is influencing how women of all ages shop,” says Jane Hertzmark Hudis, group president, who oversees six brands including Estée Lauder to Financial Times.

I am also seeing this evolution popping up in the beauty press releases I have been receiving from the various brands. Increasingly, renowned Houses are introducing new and completely distinctive product ranges targeted towards the millennials market (Remember this week’s post about the new Twilly d’Hermès fragrance?!).

What does that mean, though? Women in their early to late 20s focus less on anti-ageing but more on preventive care, natural ingredients, and the price point. Most products are multitasking because millennials tend to be time-sensitive and do not favor difficult regimes. For them, a beautiful and sophisticated packaging plays an important role, something that will look good on Instagram.

Here are some products that caught my attention. All of them work of course also for non millennials, so don’t be afraid! It is always good to know what is trending now… and to be curious!

Armani/Privé Les Malachites


This week, a courier brought me a great delivery from Giorgio Armani: The new duo of highly exclusive fragrances called Vert Malachite and Rouge Malachite which are part of La Collection de Terres Précieuses (Precious Lands) by Armani/Privé.


Inspired by Mister Armani’s travels, this launch is a tribute to Russia, and the malachite, which is an iconic semi-precious stone in the country’s culture of luxury.

Most of the Armani/Privé fragrances are a tribute to the haute couture collections. The new launch is inspired by Mister Armani’s Haute Couture F/W 2015 collection «Shocking» which was an exploration of bejeweled tones taking inspiration from the rich colors of semi-precious stones such as malachite, amethyst, lapis-lazuli and more.

Jo Malone Mimosa & Cardamom


Recently I had a lovely lunch at Seerose in Zurich to explore the newest scent by Jo Malone: MIMOSA & CARDAMOM. It is such a lovely fragrance, unexpected and new with its modern floriental signature. The nose behind it is Marie Salamagne.

Marie, can you tell us about the brief from Jo Malone London?
The first thing that Jo Malone London showed me was some incredibly vivid orientalist paintings from the nineteenth century. They wanted to create a fragrance that captured the bohemian spirit of adventure from the Victorians, who travelled the world collecting intriguing objects, to the vibrant hedonism of the sixties to the modern day bohemian. With Jo Malone London the process is always very immersive so I looked forward to really delving into the bohemian world.


Please tell us about how you were inspired by Mimosa.
Mimosa & Cardamom is infused with sensuality and much of this comes from the mimosa itself, an unusual powdery and honeyed floral that perfectly captures the bohemian character. I had a strong memory of the mimosa flower which made it even more exciting to work with. It has always reminded me of my childhood and winter weekends spent near the coast in the South of France. It was a joy to see these blooms again when Jo Malone London took me to see the mimosa growing in the Tanneron Mountains in Provence. It was a cold February day with bright blue skies. The scent and spectacle of the fluffy yellow flowers was unbelievable, mimosa is the golden sun of winter! I took some branches back from Tanneron with me and put them in my office so every day I could be inspired by the smell of the bright yellow pompoms. I chose to use a sumptuous absolute of Mimosa from the South of France, rich with a multifaceted character to capture the beauty of these flowers.
