Last week, I flew to Paris for a special event to celebrate the reunion between Swiss family-owned company Laurastar and Swiss fashion designer Kévin Germanier. This exclusive capsule collection is available now in a limited edition of 100 pieces. The launch took place during the 2023 Paris Fashion Week at Kévin Germanier’s own fashion show.

COOPERATION BETWEEN TWO SWISS ICONS

As a privileged partner of haute couture for several years, Laurastar’s mission is to sublimate all textiles, even the most precious. As I studied fashion design, I know why ironing is so important in sewing.  Seams simply will not lie flat unless pressed, and you cannot achieve clean lines if your seams and hems are bubbling. Not ironing your fabric before cutting can result in inaccurate cuts, and as a result affect the overall fit and of course appearance of the garment. The same goes for your daily outfits. If they are not ironed well, they loose their sophistication.

Driven by the same quest for excellence and innovation, Laurastar and Kévin Germanier have chosen to collaborate to express a common ambition to create beauty while preserving the world around us. A CAPSULE COLLECTION WITH STATE-OF-THE-ART TECHNOLOGY 

By combining Kévin Germanier’s creativity with Laurastar’s expertise, each numbered piece in the collection is an embodiment of a shared vision and seamlessly blends both artistically and functionally. The multichrome color nuances of the collection, which change depending on the angle of ambient light, make the products unique. They are hand-painted in a studio specialized in luxury cars. The ironing board cover, inspired by ‘Fluid Art‘ design, is also hand-stitched in Italy.


As an exclusive addition to the collection, each product is accompanied by a heart-shaped Swarovski crystal jewel crafted from upcycled materials, symbolizing the connection between the two Swiss brands. Kévin Germanier drew his inspiration from the memory of the very first Laurastar product, the iconic ‘Asse di Cuore,’ used by his mother to create the heart symbol of the collaboration.

The capsule collection features cutting-edge technology, specially developed by Swiss engineers at Laurastar. It includes two unique models carefully assembled by hand of which 90% are from upcycled parts. These products are an ironing system (Laurastar Smart Germanier), a steam generator (Laurastar Lift Germanier), and also available is a unique-designed cover (Universalcover Germanier) that fits most ironing boards on the market.
The collection is now available on laurastar.com and in selective department stores across the world.

Hailing from Valais, Kévin Germanier is now an iconic figure in both the Swiss and international fashion scenes. His journey has always diverged from conventions. From the outset, the designer disrupted the norms of the fashion industry. He positioned himself as a pioneer of upcycling, breathing new life into materials and fabrics.

Today, he creates dazzling collections and sets new standards in couture through his ethical and daring approach.

Who can forget Jennifer Lopez going viral on the Versace S/S 2020 catwalk in a fresh iteration of her iconic jungle-print dress? Tropical prints had been allover that summer and I have been waiting for the perfect moment to wear this stunning look. Finally the gown had its moment to get loud … as it was the perfect dress to wear to the Annabel’s For The Amazon Gala 2023.

Annabel’s For The Amazon Gala 2023

I am so proud to announce that I am a member of Annabel’s Membership Committee. The famous and iconic London members club is not only known for its outstanding decor and great parties, but also for creating charitable moments.

This September, it is hosting the fourth annual Annabel’s for the Amazon month, dedicated to raising awareness and vital funds to combat deforestation in the Brazilian Amazonian rainforest. The Caring Family Foundation (TCFF) continues to reforest with local traditional families, whilst also expanding their efforts to support indigenous communities more holistically alongside Brazil’s leading activists. This year’s façade highlights both the beauty and devastation of the Amazon rainforest. It stands as an artistic statement bridging the urgency of the deforestation crisis to London and the UK to remind us we all have a role to play in the safeguarding of our planet.

There is a global food crisis and a growing poverty gap. Amazonian deforestation is at a 15-year high, hurting local communities who are on the frontline. Violence against women and girls is widespread and growing.

The Caring Family Foundation (TCFF) is dedicated to improving the lives of women, with children at the heart of all that we do. We work to tackle child poverty, deforestation and domestic abuse, in the UK and Brazil, with our core focus remaining on women and children across these areas.

The club’s fourth Annabel’s For The Amazon gala is headlined by singer Seal and house group WhoMadeWho. The cocktail menu has been created in partnership with The Lost Explorer Mezcal, and each cocktail sold will plant 2.5 trees. It is a star-studded event with VIPs in attendance, including Andrew Garfield, James Corden, Douglas Booth, Wallis Day, Toheeb Jimoh, Harry Lawtey, Paul Forman, Chaneil Kular, and Ed McVey at the much-anticipated annual fundraising gala.

Throughout the campaign, the prestigious NFT Winds of Yawanawa is on display from Richard and Patricia Caring’s private collection. This first-of-its-kind co-creation between new media artist Refik Anadol and the Yawanawá community was commissioned by Impact One, as part of its Possible Futures programme. In the state of Acre, Brazil, The Yawanawa community neighbours communities supported by the ongoing works of The Caring Family Foundation.

Patricia Caring, who is Brazilian and the Co-Founder of The Caring Family Foundation as well as Chairwoman of Annabel’s said, «Annabel’s for the Amazon was established four years ago and set out to raise awareness and funds for the crisis happening in the Amazon. We think about the Amazon for the trees but there is so much more that is affected by deforestation. Families strive to survive amongst the challenges, Mothers need to feed their children and communities are at the risk of extinction. Our work on the ground directly supports the livelihoods of the indigenous people in the Acre region who choose the species of trees planted by The Caring Family Foundation. It means they are able to grow, produce and generate income for their families, thereby giving them a chance to thrive.

Communities do their best to stand strong, but they need our support and protection. Together with the indigenous people, we can make a difference. They are the guardians of the Amazon rainforest, and we cannot forget that a healthier rainforest regulates our global climate and preserves biodiversity beyond Brazil. What happens in the Amazon has an impact on our world, but without the indigenous communities it’s hard for us to start thinking about hope for climate change, so that’s why The Caring Family Foundation and I stand for Brazil and for us.»

The Choice of Racing Enthusiasts

TAG Heuer partners for the first time with Team Ikuzawa. «The Choice of Racing Enthusiasts» a name that is synonymous with motorsport and represents today a cultural force. The collaboration is embodied within a watch that brings together the unmatched expertise of TAG Heuer and the extraordinaire customizer George Bamford, as well as the bold and artistic vision of Mai Ikuzawa, who carries on the proud Ikuzawa legacy.

The legacy of Tetsu Ikuzawa, a racing driver with an illustrious career defined by pivotal victories through his life and later a famed team owner, forms the cornerstone of this collaboration. Born the son of an artist, Tetsu entered his first motorcycle race at 15 and while he finished last, he was given the «Fighting Spirit Award» for his perseverance, a fitting way for him to commence his career.

In 1963 he would switch from two wheels to four wheels, entering the first Japanese Grand Prix for sports cars at Suzuka having signed with Prince Motor Company to race the Skyline Sport Coupe, and in 1964 he was competing again with the team in a race that would launch the Skyline GT racing legend into the dynasty it is today.

In 1967, Tetsu having no longer a car to race in, he stopped his contract with Nissan and leased a Porsche 906 from the Japanese importer. Tetsu defied the odds and beat the domestic entries to win the race, instantly making Porsche a household name in Japan and beginning a lifelong relationship between Ikuzawa and the marque.

In the late 1960s, Tetsu competed in Europe, drawn by its motor racing prominence. Despite a limited knowledge of English, he raced in the British Formula Three Championship in 1966. In 1967 Stirling Moss introduced Tetsu to Brands Hatch based Motor Racing Stables, and by 1968, he competed for Frank Williams. He then joined Porsche as a works driver, becoming a pioneering Japanese racer at Le Mans and in Formula 2. Tetsu later founded i&i Racing Development, now known as Team Ikuzawa. The team’s iconic red and white livery, featuring a red-crowned crane reflects the family’s artist inclination.

Now, stepping gracefully into the spotlight, Mai seamlessly weaves her heritage and passion for the automotive industry with the sensibilities of fashion and culture acquired during studies at the renown Central Saint Martin’s School of Art and Design and two decades as a Creative Director across a plethora of disciplines.
She has emerged as a prominent figure in the vibrant Japanese design culture and artistic scene, working closely with influential designers and tastemakers, most famously the legend Hiroshi Fujiwara who has also collaborated with TAG Heuer in the past. At the same time, she is one of the world’s most influential automotive ambassadors and her mission is to inject a creative edge and a fresh perspective into special projects she has executed in the car space. Mai embodies the perfect harmony of her father’s racing provenance, her distinctive sense of style, and her Japanese cultural background. It is this symphony that blends together and brings Mai as the ideal partner for TAG Heuer in the creation of a new timepiece – one that honors her father’s racing legacy while infusing it with her own unique style and cultural influences.

Completing the puzzle with finesse is George Bamford, a revered customizer and design connoisseur renowned for his impeccable skill in harmonizing aesthetics and functionality. George’s profound admiration for TAG Heuer, coupled with his deep-rooted familial love of cars, seamlessly aligns him as the ideal partner for this extraordinary collaboration, and a chance for him to collaborate with Mai, a long-time friend of Bamford.

Together, these visionary forces unite, fusing TAG Heuer’s unparalleled expertise, George Bamford’s boundless creativity, and Mai Ikuzawa’s artistic vision. The outcome is an unparalleled combination of horology, elegance, and racing resonance that will be recognized by those who know.

The centerpiece of this collaboration is an outstandingly crafted watch in red and white – honouring Team Ikuzawa and its culture. The dial features a white opaline finish with a striking red 60-second/minute scale, complemented by two white and red contrasting chronograph counters at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock. Rhodium-plated, polished indexes and hands, adorned with white Super-LumiNova® and red lacquer, exude a sporty yet sophisticated essence.

The «Team Ikuzawa Choice of Racing Enthusiasts» and «SWISS MADE» insignia proudly grace the dial, showcasing the exclusivity and Swiss craftsmanship of this limited-edition Japanese racing masterpiece. My Look: Tropézienne

Feeling very «tropézienne» in the small seaside town of Saint Tropez on the French Riviera. Its fame started in the 50s and 60s, when Brigitte Bardot set foot on the soil of this fishing town. From then until today, this place never ceases to intrigue with its tiny streets and beautiful colors. A great time to come here is at the end of the season for the Voiles de St. Tropez, which is one of the most prestigious regattas in the Mediterranean. Both ultramodern yachts and rare wooden yachts participate in it. This year, it takes place between September 29, 2023 until October 8, 2023.

Byredo and Susanne Kaufmann

Pioneer of the natural skincare space Susanne Kaufmann and luxury beauty brand Byredo have partnered to launch a limited-edition series of products that celebrate the sensorial connection between skincare and fragrance. What started as a friendship and meeting of two friends developed into a creative collaboration that celebrates the worlds of both brands, their passion for beauty and commitment to local production and craftsmanship.

Meet Beeple

At the WWD Art Gala in Seoul, I had the pleasure to sit next to Mike Winkelmann a.k.a. Beepledigital artist and graphic designer, that you should definitely know. Based in Charleston, SC, USA, he does a variety of digital artwork including short films, Creative Commons VJ loops, everydays and VR / AR work. After he began releasing a set of widely used Creative Commons VJ loops he has worked on concert visuals for Justin Bieber, One Direction, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Eminem, Zedd, deadmau5 and many more.

One of the originators of the current «everyday» movement in 3D graphics, he has been creating a picture everyday from start to finish and posting it online for over ten years without missing a single day. His Instagram account @beeple_crap is absolutely worth following – 2.3 million people would agree on that.

On 1 May 2007, he posted a new work of art online. He did the same thing the next day and the next, and the next one after that, creating and posting a brand-new digital picture, or «everyday» as he called it, every single day for 13-and-a-half years. Now those individual pieces have been brought together in EVERYDAYS: THE FIRST 5000 DAYS, a unique work in the history of digital art. This monumental collage was the first purely digital artwork (NFT) ever offered at Christie’s. EVERYDAYS: THE FIRST 5000 DAYS sold online for $69,346,250.

Beeple in Fashion

Apparently, Nicolas Ghesquière, Louis Vuitton Creative Director, was thinking of using some futuristic landscapes for the Maison’s S/S 2019 ready-to-wear collection. Florent Buonomano, Louis Vuitton Artistic Director, then initially approached Beeple after noticing his work on Instagram and brought several of his designs to the attention of Ghesquière. Nine of the «Everydays» pieces were selected and adapted on 13 of the 45 pieces being shown in the Louis Vuitton S/S 2019 collection, mainly on shirts, jackets, and dresses.

When the collection debuted during Paris Fashion Week at The Louvre Museum in Paris, Mike Winkelmann and his wife, with whom he is together since 15 years, attended the show and were impressed themselves to see the digital artwork on the clothing.

Mike Winkelmann has an amazing success story, but he is still down to earth,  and very easy to talk to. The guy from next door. Bravo!

Clé de Peau Beauté Launches in Switzerland

I am happily announcing that I am a new ambassador for Clé de Peau Beauté. Founded in Japan in 1982, the ultra luxury skincare and makeup brand is finally available in Switzerland again. WWD Art Gala in Seoul

I just got back from Seoul, South Korea after an amazing week. One of my highlights was the WWD Art Gala that took place at my Hotel Josun Palace.
Hosted by WWD Korea and parallel to the opening of Frieze Seoul, this illustrious event celebrated the vibrant and diverse world of art and fashion, while honoring the achievements of remarkable artists across all genres, collectors, curators, and art enthusiasts. This year’s gala featured captivating ballet performances  and several live acts, while fostering cultural exchange, and providing a platform to connect with luminaries in the creative communities of art, culture, entertainment and fashion.

The curated exhibition on display presented beautiful artworks for the live auction hosted by the famous Simon de Pury, captivating performances, an elegant cocktail reception and a gastronomically delightful dinner. I tried really hard to get one work but got outbidding by the wonderful Mrs Sung-joo Kim, who is the founder, chairwoman and chief visionary officer of the Sungjoo Group and MCM Holding AG.

The culmination of the night was the announcement of the winner of the Art Prize of the Year. Personally speaking, it was a great opportunity to engage with fellow art connoisseurs, meet amazing artists and collectors, forge meaningful connections, and immerse myself in the beauty and creativity that Korea has to offer, while supporting the arts.
