Barely There But Everywhere

«Barely there» creations are having a huge moment with celebrities flaunting those daring looks with great pleasure. French fashion brand Mugler features some great styles with one eye-popping dress that is in my opinion a must (at least I couldn’t resist). The statement look comes with a cleavage-framing, spliced halterneck and shoulder straps, a baring front, exposed back, and contouring low-slung ruched tulle mesh skirt.

It is available in different colors. However turquoise and pink are limited editions, only available at Mytheresa.

Late fashion designer (Manfred) Thierry Mugler first debuted this kind of look on the spring couture runway in the heady pre-Insta days of 1998. With the Y2K revival still being a major fashion trend, it seems obvious, that designer Casey Cadwallader, working for a revived house of Mugler, has made these ultra-revealing cutout creations a brand signature over the past seasons. The brand describes them as «trompe l’oeil fabrications that accentuate anatomical curves and erogenous zones with unprecedented ease». Inspired by Mugler’s couture pieces of the ’90s, the label’s dresses have proven particularly popular with celebrities like Megan Fox, Kim Kardashian, Dua Lipa, and Irina Shayk among many others.

It is barely there — but everywhere. If you’ve got it, flaunt it. As Mugler himself said in the 1994 fashion satire film Prêt-à-Porter: «It’s all about looking good, helping the silhouette. And it’s all about getting a great f**k, honey.»

Stay tuned for the detailed outfit post coming up shortly.

LoL, Sandra

Say «I Do» in Simone Rocha

Due to the current pandemic, the wedding-world has been a turmoil. So many celebrations have been cancelled or rescheduled including mine. However, it hasn’t been all so bad, as brides-to-be have far more time than usual to concentrate on what they will be wearing on their big day.

As soon as social restrictions are lifted, nuptials will return. This will hopefully happen latest this summer. In case you are looking for the perfect wedding dress, have a look at Simone Rocha‘s first bridal capsule collection, that has launched exclusively at MYTHERESA.

«The idea behind this bridal collection is to translate signatures from the S/S21 collection into the world of bridal through fabrications, embellishments and embroideries,» the London-based Irish designer designer shared on Instagram. Known for her distinctive romantic designs, her debut bridal collection consists of eight ethereal dresses that feature her signature voluminous silhouettes and pearls. From lace organza, tulle and silk taffeta in petal pink, pastel yellow and classical white, to accessories including faux pearl headbands, earrings and hair clips, Rocha has included everything a modern, romantic bride could wish for. It is the perfect translation of some of her signature looks from her S/S 2021 collection into wedding-worthy pieces.

Last year, a large amount of cancelled weddings have been rescheduled for 2021. However, those who couldn’t wait, gave rise to starting more intimate ceremonies that are shared on Zoom for example, which leads also.  That in turn leads to brides-to-be are searching for more low-key style options. Unlike large, statement styles, Rocha’s dresses are comfortable and easy-to-wear, and transferrable to other occasions. A worthy investment, indeed.

And don’t forget… tomorrow Simone Rocha’s highly anticipated H&M collaboration will hit the shelves. Probably a great way to experience Simone Rocha’s world before walking down the aisle…

Happy 11th Birthday, Sandra’s Closet!

11 years – as crazy as it sounds but I have been blogging now for 132 months, which is around 4015 days, and this is my 4559th post which means I wrote at least one per day. I am thankful, Sandra’s Closet has taken me on the craziest, busiest but most amazing ride in my life.

To honor the occasion, I thought I would share 10 fashionable fun facts about me that you might not know yet.

1. I went to a Catholic girl’s school and took my teachers shopping on class trips. In Rome for example, they bought the Moschino logo belt that has gone into style a few years ago again. Speaking of great investments.

2. Before my fashion design studies at ESMOD, I studied law. During an internship at court, I worked with the customs agents at Frankfurt airport and was really good in spotting counterfeits.

3. My first foray into working in fashion was an internship at Sonia Rykiel in Paris where I worked alongside the late designer. A very challenging yet unforgettable experience. I designed bags and T-shirts that were actually produced and have a proud spot in my closet.

4. Preferring to write about and style fashion, I started as a booking assistant at German Marie Claire magazine after my studies, and worked myself up pretty fast to fashion editor.

5. Before mytheresa.com was an online shopping platform, I created catalogs for them, the concept, layout and text.

6. Speaking of which, my favorite thing about blogging is the graphic design part, as you can see in my collages. My techniques are primarily self-taught which makes me proud. I also love drawing.

7. I was named among the most influential German fashion people in the coffee table book «Fashion Germany» along Claudia Schiffer, Peter Lindbergh, Jil Sander and many more…

8. I have started my fashion collection at the age of 16 and have kept everything. Every piece has its story and I always remember where I got or wore it.

9. I haven’t been without nail polish, both on my fingers or toes, since I am a teenager. Not one single day!

10. I have lived in Frankfurt, Munich, Paris, Singapore, Hong Kong, Chicago before Zurich and my biggest dream is to open a fashion museum with my collection.

I hope you have enjoyed this little insight about my life before starting the blog.

Prada x Mytheresa Capsule Collection

Great news, here is another beautiful capsule collection that is launching today exclusively at mytheresa.com. Italian fashion house Prada has joined forces with the Munich based online retailer for colorful line that features a bright selection of shoes, handbags and ready-to-wear. The beauty is in the detail, with a focus on delicate embellishments in different variations. Added as shoulder straps for bags or as a lavish update to classical white shirts or dresses and uniquely patterned skirts, the decadent use of feathers and pearls gives quintessential Prada glamour.

My favorite is this stunning feather-trimmed printed silk shirt.

I truly love the feather embellished items – a great way to be ahead of the fashion game as plumage is one of the big trends for F/W 2017 (click here for the previous trend report). Here is your chance to own an exclusive limited edition piece.

The Alexa Factor

Today marks the launch of Alexa Chung‘s debut collection ALEXACHUNG. Drawing on the model, muse and journalist’s own idiosyncratic sense of style, her beautiful collection applies over a decade of experience in the fashion industry and is packed with personality and humour. “Music has had a huge influence on my work as have my friends,” she explains, citing icons Jane Birkin, Brian Jones, David Hockney and David Bowie as inspiration. I especially love her fun slogan tops and the gorgeous denim overall.

To celebrate the new line, luxury online retailer MYTHERESA has joined forces with musician Mike Skinner to produce the second instalment of mytheresa.com tunes.

In 2004 English musician, The Street’s Mike Skinner booked a then unknown model, Alexa Chung, to star in the music film clip of “I could well be in”. They met again for the first time in twelve years at a mytheresa.com intimate dinner in Germany and an idea ensued. To celebrate the launch of Alexa’s collection, mytheresa.com re-united them for the mytheresa.com tunes series. The song “In my head – the darker the shadow the brighter the light”, is classic Mike Skinner prose and features Alexa Chung narrating her way through Ireland, from the iconic Lismore Castle to the dive bars of Cork, in selected looks from her debut collection.

Being the first mytheresa.com woman in a series of inspiring women, there is a special bonding between mytheresa.com and Alexa Chung since 2013 when the first joint project launched. Since then Alexa Chung has attended several mytheresa.com events (click here please for a previous post), but was also the main character of the very first mytheresa.com tunes instalment for the launch of AC by AG jeans, singing a cover of “Blue Denim” by Stevie Nicks.

Off-White c/o Mytheresa Capsule Collection

Luxury online retailer MYTHERESA and 2013 launched fashion brand Off-White collaborated on a special capsule collection which will be sold worldwide exclusively from today. The collection, that consists of 8 pieces, picks up on Off-White’s high-minded take on street wear that embodies multiple juxtapositions, featuring lose shapes and street style in combination with very feminine details such as soft pastels and tight corsages.

An exciting look behind-the-scenes was given to both of the brands followers on social media through the videos “CUT HERE” (to watch part2 and part3 of the video trilogy, click on the highlighted text please), showing the making of the exclusive capsule collection. For the hero piece of the line, the khaki coloured Mackintosh, followers on social media were furthermore invited to be part of the creative process by deciding on the length of the coat.

The concept for the capsule collection was to embrace the internet’s relation with fashion, to empower the public and broaden while gaining additional fashion critics. The idea is that the garment is labeled with a series of marks. People can chime in with their opinion on where the garment should be cut. I take in the suggestions, but ultimately will make the final decision.” Virgil Abloh, Creative Director Off-White.

The Off-White c/o mytheresa.com exclusive capsule collection will be presented within a dedicated editorial story, featuring behind-the-scenes footage and the possibility to shop the looks directly.

Miu Miu x Mytheresa Capsule Collection

Looking for something exclusive and new? Then I have something for you today. Mytheresa.com is partnering with Miu Miu to launch an exclusive capsule collection for S/S 2017 that is hitting the virtual shelves today.

The line, which is inspired by Miu Miu’s beautiful S/S 2017 runway collection and vibrant signatures, features ready-to-wear, as well as handbags and footwear.

How cute are those girly embellishments and the playful spirit of the bright floral and polka dot prints?! My two most wanted: Embellished cotton T-shirt and printed cotton-terry skirt.

Embellished open-toe sandals

Among the limited edition must-haves are the brand’s bestselling ballet flats and slides updated in pastel-hued shearling.

Shearling ballerinas

To introduce the new collection, the Mytheresa has teamed with Danny Sangra, a Central Saint Martin’s graduate and renowned director, artist and illustrator, to produce a short film called “Shark” that I invite you to watch below. It is very fun. But be careful! You might be in a serious shopping mode after!

Justin O’Shea Launches Own Brand

Recently, I was wondering what Justin O’Shea has been doing lately and just when I was thinking about the former global fashion director of MyTheresa and street style figure, I read the news on BoF: O’Shea will launch his own brand, SSS World Corp. This marks his return to design following his departure from Brioni in October where he worked as creative director for only one season. The runway debut of his new self-funded menswear brand will take place in Paris in June during the menswear shows. It is said to have a luxury streetwear price-point.

O’Shea’s one capsule collection at Brioni

As BoF states: «SSS World Corp will have advice, production and manufacturing support from Berlin-based 032c, the contemporary culture magazine and clothing line helmed by Joerg and Maria Koch. It will launch a full wardrobe, with product categories including outerwear, tailoring, shirts, t-shirts, swimwear, footwear and jewellery.»

People don’t want to buy into a label, they want to buy into an idea,” O’Shea tells BoF of the concept behind the brand. “There needs to be some kind of element of contradiction and something which makes them feel like they’re getting individuality rather than something that’s a blank approach.”

«It’s that mixture between formal and street, which inevitably I think is the trend that will go forward

O’Shea says he is confident about SSS World Corp’s launch and positioning. “You take what Demna [Gvasalia’s] doing at Vetements, they’re doing whatever they want and they’ve now paved the way because they stayed on their own trajectory. That [attitude] is lacking in menswear compared to womenswear and that’s where I found my relevance.

Good luck, Justin, I am curious to see the new collection…
