Fendi x Marc Jacobs

Welcome to Marjendi! Initially presented as a part of the multi-collab Resort 2023 collection at New York Fashion Week last September, which saw the Italian luxury house partner with the likes of Tiffany & Co., Sarah Jessica Parker and Porter to co-design key classics to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the FENDI «Baguette» Bag, the FENDI by Marc Jacobs capsule collection will be available online and in-stores starting on May 11.

First, though, a word on the New York connection. Sex & the City made the Baguette famous. Secondly, Marc Jacobs and Jones go back to their days together at Louis Vuitton, when Jacobs hired Jones to come on board as LV’s menswear creative director in 2011. Thirdly, thinking back, Marc Jacobs was one of a the first serial collaborators himself, see Stephen Sprouse, Takashi Murakami, Richard Prince, and Yayoi Kusama. So it all comes perfectly together.

«I called Marc up and asked him if he wanted to design a collection for Fendi. I haven’t been involved at allJones said to US Vogue. «We worked side by side during fittings. We were doing ours, he was doing his. I’m looking very much at 1997 and I think Mark’s is fresh and now

For his take, Jacobs developed a «Fendiroma» logo. He mixed up his own brand codes with Fendi’s, creating a calfskin Baguette emblazoned with the words «The Baguette,» playing off his «The Tote» designs. Marc Jacobs’ Fendi collection sees exaggerated, platformed, oversized, monochromatic silhouettes, with florescent touches across men’s and women’s ready-to-wear.

«In its sinuous lines and elongated forms, the ready-to-wear collection echoes New York’s ‘Gilded Age’ in shape and yet these are ‘everyday’ items of today made into part of the mythology of the city. Here, both fantasy and reality come into play,» the Italian fashion house shared in a press release. Colors range from silvery, glittering, grey, white, fluo yellow, and black with a total Y2K vibe.

I personally love the baguette hoodies, where the front pocket features the full dimensions of the Maxi Baguette bag. The collection also includes jewelry that takes the bow motif taken from the runway, double sole Fendi Domino sneakers (so ’90s), cat-eye sunglasses and extravagant, gigantic, upcycled fur hats.

The Fendi x Marc Jacobs collection is a fashion dream coming true…

Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty

«Fashion does not belong in a museum.» – Karl Lagerfeld

Probably one of the only quotes of Karl Lagerfeld (1933–2019), I don’t agree with and obviously the Costume Institute neither. Its spring 2023 exhibition «Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty» will examine the work of the late designer. Focusing on his stylistic vocabulary as expressed in aesthetic themes that appear time and again in his fashions from the 1950s to his final collection in 2019, the show will spotlight the German-born designer’s unique working methodology. Most of the approximately 150 pieces on display will be accompanied by Lagerfeld’s sketches, which underscore his complex creative process and the collaborative relationships with his premières, or head seamstresses. Lagerfeld’s fluid lines united his designs for Balmain, Patou, Chloé, Fendi, CHANEL, and his eponymous label, Karl Lagerfeld, creating a diverse and prolific body of work unparalleled in the history of fashion.

I had the honor to meet and work with Karl on several occasions, as a young fashion editor, later on as editor-in-chief and also as a customer of his work, may it be fashion or art. If you interested in some anecdotes, I invite you to read this obituary.

Mannequins specially made for the exhibition, Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, reflect the renowned fashion designer’s aesthetic tastes.

My Look: Vitamin Sea

This feed was in terrible need of some Vitamin Sea. Who else is excited for those carefree days at the beach?! I love wearing vibrant colors that complement sun-kissed skin the best. A great way to protect your hair from the wind, while looking super stylish, is a silk scarf tied around your head. I sported this styling trick a lot at the Ritz-Carlton Fari Islands resort.

My look: Jeannie terry midi dress by Zimmermann, Almost Bare metallic leather sandalsicon by Aquazzura, Colorama flap bag in quilted watercolor (S/S 2014) by CHANEL, cutout acetate butterfly sunglasses in shiny black smoke by Fendilong beaded tassel earrings in forest greenicon by Oscar de la Renta, shell and beaded bracelet by Isabel Marant, Oyster Perpetual 36 with a turquoise blue dial by Rolex, and «Le Géographe» vintage silk scarf 90 designed by Sandra Laroche (1992) by Hermès.

My Look: Classy With a Savage Side

Classy with a savage side… I love juxtapositions. Traditional bouclé tweed that emphasizes the shape of the body is mixed with oversized velvet for a fierce yet sweet look. I got many compliments walking around the sunny streets of Boston in this beautiful outfit. Here you see me in front of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church on Newbury Street that is located right next to my hotel, The Newbury Boston.

My look: Double-breasted velvet jacket by Saint Laurent, bouclé tweed jacket, and matching mini bouclé tweed skirt, embellished silver-tone belt and silver-tone, crystal and faux pearl clip earrings, all by Alessandra Rich, cropped top with logo, and bouclé tweed cap, both by CHANEL, black suede boots by Prada, cutout acetate butterfly sunglasses in shiny black smoke by Fendi, and VSLING mini top handle handbag in black with sparkling embroideryicon by Valentino.

My Look: Mykonos

As promised here is the outfit post featuring the very daring Mugler dress with the Fendi wallet on chain, shot in Mykonos where I spent a great time in August. The fusion of the rocky landscape and the dark blue sea creates a special atmosphere. The sunsets are divine and every spot seems to be extra picturesque.
