Replay S/S 2012: Pretty Flowers and Denim

IMG_2177

Working in fashion can be quite contradictory. While I am telling you all about the upcoming Christmas treats, special holiday collections and beauty must-haves during the next weeks, I am already exploring the S/S 2012 showrooms, like yesterday evening at Replay.

Needless to say, there was a lot of denim and an iconic mix and match of fabrics and patterns. Very bohemian with a lot of floral embroideries and prints plus a nice array of vibrant colours with green, orange and blue leading the way.

Beautiful and Sad – Dior F/W 2011

W 2011 -3

DiorCrewYesterday, despite all the horrible incidents that happened to the famous French fashion house during the last seven days, the Dior F/W 2011 show took place inside the tent situated in the gardens of the Musée Rodin – just without its designer John Galliano who got fired after his anti-Semitic assaults.

But before the models appeared on the catwalk, Dior CEO Sidney Toledano made a speech onstage about the values that Christian Dior has represented for more than six decades. With no word he mentioned John Galliano by name.

In the end of the défilé, the seamstresses and craftsmen who had been working for Galliano over the past 14 years showed up on stage and the audience cheered and clapped.
Isn’t it on one side such a sad ending for such a talented designer as Galliano is and on the other hand so unbelievable that it took an heinous act like that to finally thank the people in the ateliers for their amazing work!

W 2011

I have absolutely loved the collection, the rich colours, lush textures and the bohemian theme. Romantic and edgy, quintessential pillars of the Galliano woman. The buckled knee boots worn with a sweeping cashmere cloak, mmh, just love that! And our Swiss supermodel, Julia Sahner, looked so pretty in the long ruffled chiffon gown, blowing kisses.

W 2011-2

It was completely wrong and despicable what Galliano did but let’s see if he will have a comeback one day. People forget and time changes everything. Did you know that Coco Chanel experienced an exile from the fashion world for nine years after having been denunciated as a Nazi collaboratrice? I detest Galliano for his behaviour but I absolutely love his talent.

Baja

This summer there is one material you should really consider buying: Baja, a woven striped pattern, a classic surfer staple. Designers looked for inspirations to Mexico and the Californian beach scene.

So if you want something to really impress your friends, you need to get a pullover baja hoodie that will imbue your look with relaxed bohemian cool. The best ones available are by Tory Burch, Preonza Schouler and Sacai.

Total Styling Lab: Bohemian Rhapsody

Bohemian Rhapsody

Here is my fifth and final look from the LuisaViaRoma Total Styling Lab. This time I focused on the maxi trend and gave my look some romantic touches by adding a bow belt that I tied around my waist and the cute straw hat.

Nothing epitomises chic summer dressing like a ground skimming dress paired with flat sandals.

S/S 2011: Go with the Flow

For summer many designers focused on the midi length. As mid calf is for most women a critical point (you really have to be very tall and ultra-skinny), it seems all natural that the maxi length was spotted on many runways, too. Having a bohemian,`70s inspired feel, the creations were to die for!

Flowing maxi gowns ripple and float around the body, revealing as much as they conceal. Billowing slash-front skirts show off legs from top to toe, no tights allowed. This is sex appeal to the max!
