Impressions from Rio de Janeiro

impressions_riodejaneiro_omegawatches

As promised yesterday, here are the most amazing photos taken during the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The experiences I had were unbelievable and a huge thank you goes to Omega Watches for this amazing trip.

img_1406

I witnessed history when Usain Bolt ending his Olympic career after his victory in the 4x100m relay which secured his ninth gold medal. That was the only moment it was raining, the rest of the time it was sunny and beautiful. I saw so many amazing winners, enjoyed the beach volleyball finals at night, went to a samba school, did sightseeing and had the best time ever. As pictures sometimes speak more than words, I would like to invite you to indulge in my diary below…

Greetings from Corcovado

c600x624As 2016 is almost going to mark its end, I want to share some of my most impressive moments of the year. One was definitely my trip to Rio de Janeiro for the Olympic Games with Omega Watches in August. Brazil had been on my bucket list for many many years and funnily enough whenever I was supposed to go something tragic happened.

So you can imagine my happiness when I finally flew to this magic and vibrant city that is full of contrasts and great diversity. My favorite sightseeing spot was the Corcovado mountain as the panoramic views from up there are breathtaking and the magic you feel being close to the Christ the Redeemer statue gives you chills. A symbol of Christianity across the world and a cultural icon of both Rio de Janeiro and Brazil, it was constructed between 1922 and 1931 and is listed today as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Watching the sunset, I took an important personal decision that felt all of a sudden very easy and I have not regretted it. 2016 was not the best year for me and I am truly looking forward to 2017!

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s post with some stunning shots of Rio de Janeiro.

LoL, Sandra

My Look: Superwoman

Somehow I always find the time before the holiday season extremely stressful, getting everything ready for the family, the gifts, the food, the decoration, preparing the travels and getting all the business work done. Running around the city in those freezing temperatures doesn’t make it any better. Then, it is always time to put on some superwoman powers…

Last Christmas for George Michael

george_michael_dead

Another sad news was broken over the Christmas weekend. A true icon of music has left us, George Michael died of heart failure at the age of 53 in his home in Goring on Thames, Oxfordshire in Great Britain.

I find it almost ironic that I associate George Michael always with one of his big hits «Last Christmas» he had with the ’80s pop group Wham! whose other famous songs include «Wake Me Up.. Before You Go Go», and «Club Tropicana» among others.

george-michael-and-andrew-ridgeley-of-whamGeorge Michael and Andrew Ridgeley of WHAM! in 1983

When the duo split up, he easily managed to transition to become a credible singer and songwriter with timeless ballads like «Careless Whisper». His debut solo album «Faith» catapulted him to super stardom in 1987.

Yesterday, a part of my childhood has died. Sir Elton John was among the shocked celebrities paying tribute to the star on social media. He wrote: «I have lost a beloved friend – the kindest, most generous soul and a brilliant artist. My heart goes out to his family and all of his fans. @GeorgeMichael #RIP

Viva Coco Cuba Libre for Christmas

merry_christmas_with_chanel_sandra_bauknecht_cuba_tee

Last May, I attended the amazing CHANEL Cuba Cruise 2017 show in Havana, and the one piece I predicted to be the absolute bestseller was the colourful printed T-shirt «Viva Coco Cuba Libre». Of course, I wanted to get my hands on it as well as I knew this one will fly off the shelves. Well, dreams do come true, and sometimes even double!

When I unwrapped my Christmas present from CHANEL wearing the tee, I couldn’t believe my eyes, I got another one in a more pastel color combination. Thank you, CHANEL, this was the perfect gift for me! Merry Christmas to all of you… enjoy your holiday season!

Franca Sozzani Dead at Age 66

img-franca-1_105149415386

«You use the way you dress to give a message to someone else. So I don’t understand why sometimes it becomes so controversial.» – Franca Sozzani

She was much-loved, Vogue Italia editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani passed away in Milan on Thursday after a year-long illness. She was only 66 years old.

bn-dz659_mag091_fr_20140806122915Franca Sozzani in her home office in Milan.

Having led the magazine for 28 years, she has transformed Vogue Italia into a platform for honoring the power of the image and of photography. For me, she has always been an idol with her great style, the long wavy blond hair and her warm-hearted and elf-like appearance. She was very open, never shied away from pop culture, gifting Kim Kardashian her first Vogue appearance and defending fashion bloggers well before they were an established part of the industry.

sarorialist-franca-sozzaniAlways smiling, never pretentious, Franca front row.

A modern woman, who combined motherhood and business. She was extremely close to her only son, Francesco Carrozzini, who in the final year of her life directed a well-respected documentary about her, which commentators described as a love letter between a mother and a child. He was at her side when she died.

The fashion world has lost an icon. RIP Franca – you will be missed!

Aerin Lauder: Morocco

o-41322morocco

For AERIN LAUDER, Founder & Creative Director of the beauty and lifestyle brand AERIN, MOROCCO is a magical destination that inspires her in many ways – a melting pot of cultures and colors, with café-lined streets of Art Nouveau and Deco architecture, and a labyrinthine Moorish medina, its long mesmerized artists, writers, and bohemians. Today she tells us a little bit more about her favorite spots.

Your favourite city?
MARRAKECH
 – from the palaces and gardens to the legendary bazaars, there’s always something new to explore – it’s full of mystery and splendor. This became the inspiration for my most recent AERIN fragrance, Tangier Vanille.

03_aerin_woa_tangier-vanille_qa_960x500The beautiful Tangier Vanille collection.

Scent is always tied to a memory and all of the ingredients we have chosen for Tangier Vanille, remind me of my travels to Morocco. The scents of spices from everywhere – like vanilla, cinnamon and saffron – fill the air.

Your favourite hotel?
We stayed at the incredibly beautiful FOUR SEASONS RESORT MARRAKECH. It is the perfect balance of familiar and exotic. If you are looking for a little taste of home, you can order American comfort food like fried eggs and bacon, but if you want a traditional Moroccan meal, they offer delicious local dishes. I loved the artfully arranged plates of dates, figs, and nuts.

I’d also love to stay at the PEACOCK PAVILIONS on the outskirts of Marrakech and the chic riad hotel EL FENN.

Your favourite restaurant?
LE MAROCAIN
restaurant in the La Mamounia. One of the most stunning hotels in the world is La Mamounia, designed by the very talented Jacques Garcia. The hotel is a dazzling example of Moroccan style. To get to their wonderful restaurant Le Marocain, you have to walk through their gardens. The setting is magical, lots of rich colors, low lights, and red velvet. They have the most amazing lamb couscous. The night we were there, local musicians came in and played. My father requested an Arabic lullaby that my grandfather used to love called “Moustafa.

Your perfect escape?
My dream is to stay next at THE ROYAL MANSOUR. King Mohammed VI built it an exquisite example of Moroccan style. The spaces are very decadent, gold leaf ceilings, intricate carved floral motifs, beautiful tiles. The level of detail is extraordinary. Last time I was there, I had lunch there with my father in their garden restaurant La Table. It was lovely, the air smelled like jasmine and orange blossom.

Your favourite sightseeing spot?
FREDERICK VREELAND
, the son of Diana Vreeland and the former American Ambassador to Morocco, has a fantastic house in Marrakech. The riad boasts 5 acres of gardens and features a wonderful mix of Morroccan, European, and Asian design. The house was the backdrop for a photo shoot I did – it was a very memorable trip.

townandcountry

The cover shoot was shot by Jonathan Becker for Town & Country Magazine. I love those photographs, they really capture a sense of place—I wore an amazing brown and blue Rochas dress that echoed the backdrop of the Moroccan desert and sky.

Your favourite park?
I was blown away and inspired by JARDIN MAJORELLE. I love places with so much history and creativity. The color combinations in this must-see twelve-acre botanical garden are absolutely magical.

Your favourite shop?
The SOUKS in Marrakech. They are famous for the incredible array of Moroccan treasures like embroidered tunics, colored glass, jewelry, spices, and ceramics. I found a striking terracotta tagine serving platter that I still wish I had taken home with me. It is on my wishlist for when I return (hopefully soon!).

aerin_must_haves

Your must-have accessory?
The AERIN Brown Rose Weekendericon – I don’t travel anywhere without it. It fits all of my essentials, while still feeling feminine and stylish. Some of my travel essentials include my iPhone which goes everywhere with me, my travel size gold AERIN brush and iconcomb andicon my pink AERIN batik makeup bag.

aerinlauder_tunic

Your go-to style?
I pack white pants, great tunics, a great pair of flat sandals for all of the walking and a big tote bag.

aerin_beauty_must_haves

Beauty essential?
The new AERIN Tangier Vanille body creamicon and rollerball, the AERIN Rose Lip Conditioner
icon always helps my lips stay hydrated and the AERIN bronzer helps me look fresh and sun kissed.

The best book to read while being on vacation there?
Local magazines – I like to pick up local magazines upon arrival and read through for inspiration.

Your best travel tips?
Visit the market, go for a hike in the dessert, go on a camel ride and have an authentic dinner in a tented room drinking mint tea after a day of shopping.
